Godoku: Play The Pentomino Sudoku 5×5 Variant
Godoku, also known as Logi-5, Pentomino Sudoku, or simply 5×5 Sudoku is a variant of the classic Sudoku puzzle where instead of a 9×9 grid, a smaller 5×5 grid is used. The name Godoku coming from ‘go’ being Japanese for five.
And instead of having to fill 9 3×3 subregions of the grid with the numbers 1 to 9, you instead have to fill 5 5-cell subregions with the numbers 1 through 5.
This makes Godokus a much easier and quicker puzzle to complete than regular Sudokus.
An example of a completed Godoku puzzle is shown below.
Unlike with regular Sudoku, Godokus are not subdivided into regular subregions. Instead, the five 5×5 subregions (known as pentominoes) can differ from puzzle to puzzle in arrangement.
This keeps the puzzles interesting and fun to complete.
Fun fact: There are twelve different possible pentomino shapes (excluding mirror images) that can potentially be found within 5×5 Sudoku grids. These are shown below.
